Finance Minister Directs Customs increase i Planned Budget to Improve Working Environment

Khartoum, - (SUNA) The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Mohamed Osman Suleiman Al-Rikabi has instructed customs leaderships to allocate the increase in the planned budget to improve the working environment and develop technology in customs activities.
This came during his first meeting last week, after assuming his position as the Minister of Finance, with the leaderships of the Sudan Customs Administration, in the presence of the State Ministers at Ministry of Finance and the Undersecretary of the Ministry and Revenue Director at the Ministry, where he praised the great role being played by the Customs Administration in supporting the economy and society protection.
The minister affirmed the ministry's support continuation of the workshops on the optimal use of technology. He pointed to the current challenges including improvement of the working environment, commitment to integrity and control as the two protecting systems for the economy and society as well as the review of the internal audit and converting it into the system of risks and training in computing, referring to the importance of using supervision on the systems through evaluation, follow-up and monitoring with respect to the information and reports.
The minister said that one of the pillars of the national reconciliation government is the livelihood of the people, stressing that his ministry will help and support the customs administration in lifting their sufferings and the implementation of the five-year program.
For his part, the Director General of the Sudan Customs Authority, Major General Dr. Bashir al-Tahir Bashir said that the customs forces would continue to be the strong supporter of the Ministry of Finance, affirming their readiness to carry out the tasks assigned to them. He pointed out that customs through electronic collection achieved a performance rate during the first quarter of 2017 amounted to 111 %.
He explained the political, economic and social customs tasks by facilitating international trade, combating smuggling, collecting revenues and protecting the society. He pointed out that these tasks are carried out through a periodic strategy for the period 2017-2020 through four-division structure including the General Administration for Public Affairs In addition to the administrative performance of the force in coordination with the Ministry of Interior in training and techniques. The General Administration of Customs Operations is responsible for customs procedures at the all stations in different states, Laws and regulations, the Anti-Smuggling Department, which is responsible for protecting the borders to prevent prohibited goods, in addition to other tasks such as combating human trafficking, drugs and weapons a matter that requires great efforts for protection, adding that the next phase will witness the use of new mechanisms such as the use of drones and others.
