Increase of Genetically Modified Cotton Cultivated Area up to 250 Thousand Fedans

Medani: (smc) Gezira State has disclosed a plan for increasing the area of cultivating genetically modified cotton  to 250  thousand fedans in the coming season while Gezira Scheme Board has announced the start of winter season cultivation in the first week of next November.
 Deputy Governor of Gezira Scheme Engineer Awad Al Gid Al Zubeir said in a statement to smc that the productivity of the genetically modified cotton has reach 15 kantars per one fedan  over an area amounting to 115 thousand fedans  in the current season.
He noted that the types of the hybrid Chinese and Indian cotton are the types that resist the American worm  and they are characterized by low cost of production and increase of farmers profits.
He noted that seed preparation and distribution is completed prior to the start of winter season cultivation.
