Khartoum - First Vice-President Bakri Hassan Saleh inaugurated at the fair ground in Burri the 12th Session of Khartoum International Books Exhibition, in which many national
and international publishing houses participate and which is sponsored by Sudani Telecommunication Company.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Culture Al-Tayeb Hassan Badawi affirmed the state’s support to the publishers, referring to the great facilities extended to them by the government to hold the international book exhibition in Khartoum and supporting their all issues.
The minister pointed out that some 350 national and international publishing houses participate in the book fair, in the presence of heads of Arab and Egyptian publishers unions and a number of writers and artists from other countries.
He added that the exhibition, scheduled for 17-29 October, focuses during its current session on new titles and attaches concern to scientific, university and children books. The session also includes accompanying programmes of symposia, cultural and intellectual events and honouring of a number of national and international artists and writers.
The minister stressed that the event represents one of the biggest cultural and intellectual projects in the country, noting that their strategy aims at comprehensive cultural development and boosting cultural diversity in the country.
He indicated that selection of novelist Jamal Al-Jamal as the personality of the year comes in appreciation of his work as one of the honorable Sudanese artists.
