(DPA) - Gerard Moreno's equaliser earned Espanyol a 1-1 draw at home against Deportivo la Coruna in La Liga, although Javi Fuego
missed a huge chance to win the game for the hosts.
Espanyol's first good chance came early in the second half, but Moreno was shut down when he seemed poised to score after Sidnei gave the ball away and he could not beat Przemyslaw Tyton.
Deportivo hit back and Celso Borges struck the crossbar from distance with a spectacular effort as the game burst into life.
The game became an end-to-end affair, with Tyton making a fine save to deny Pablo Piatti from close range.
Eventually the visitors broke the deadlock, when Borges headed home from a corner in the 59th minute, but four minutes later Espanyol were level.
Moreno capitalised on a slip by Sidnei in his own penalty area and tucked the ball home to equalise.
Juanfran was sent off late on for a second yellow card and Espanyol nearly capitalised when Jurado's free kick hit the bar, with Fuego turning the rebound wide from almost on the goal line.
Espanyol stay in ninth place with 23 points from 17 games, while Deportivo move a point clear of Leganes, in 15th with 17 points.
